DEATHS AND FUNERALS
HOOD
ATHENS, May 16 -- The funeral of Mrs. Beulah J. Hood, formerly Miss Venable, of Jackson county, was held here today. The interment took place at Jefferson this afternoon. Mrs. Hood was a granddaughter of the first patient whom the late Dr. Crawford W. Long operated upon with the use of sulphuric ether as an anaesthetic, the operation which established the claim of the former Jefferson and Athens physician as the discoverer of this form of anaesthetic. Several weeks ago before her death, Mrs. Hood underwent an operation in which the same form of anaesthesia was employed.
