CHEVES
MONTEZUMA, Jan. 29 -- Rev. A. J. Cheves, Baptist minister and well known Confederate veteran, died at his home in Spalding, just out of Montezuma, Friday evening at 10 o'clock. He had been suffering only a few days of pneumonia, and his death was quite a shock to his relatives and friends.
The remains were interred in Felton cemetery Sunday at 11 o'clock surrounded by a large number of grief-stricken friends. Services at both churches were called in honor of the dead divine.
Mr. Cheves served through the Confederate war as chaplain and since those trying days has preached in many pulpits throughout this section. He leaves a daughter, Miss Orlulu Cheves, and two sons, L. C. and S. S. Cheves; two sisters and one brother, with a host of friends who mourn his loss.
