TRAGIC DEATH OF NEGRO AT FORT GAINES, GA.
FORT GAINES, Ga., Aug. 13. -- At the eastern approach of the bridge spanning Chattahoochee river at this place is a little store run by Mr. G. R. Sutlive, in the door of which an awful tragedy occurred about 9 o'clock this morning. The actors in the scene were G. R. Sutlive, Richard Wilson, white, and Will Peterman, colored. Mr. Sutlive had been examining his gun and turned to replace it in the store. As he did so Wilson threw out his hand which must have struck the trigger. The gun was discharged, the load of bird shot entering the fleshy part of Will Peterman's left arm and penetrating his left breast. Peterman fell, gasping a few times and died. The tragedy is much deplored. Will was a good negro boy.
